Spritzee and Swirlix are both Pokemon from the Kalos region and are some of the newest 'mons to arrive in Pokemon GO. These two are both Fairy-types that evolve once with the use of a special method in the main series games.
In the main series, both Spritzee and Swirlix evolve when traded holding a special item. In Pokemon GO, though, they work a little differently. You may notice that their summary page says "adventure together to evolve." Here's what that means and how to evolve these cute new Pokemon.
Updated on June 19, 2021 by Michael Christopher: This post was initially published during the event that introduced Spritzee, Swirlix, and their evolutions. The way to evolve Spritzee and Swirlix in Pokemon GO has not changed, but they are not spawning en masse, in raids, or in field research encounters like they were during the event. Since this post was out of date once the event ended, we've rejigged it to keep it current.
How to Catch Spritzee and Swirlix
If you want to evolve either of these Pokemon, you'll first need to catch them. They are both available in the wild, but you probably won't see them very often, because they're fairly uncommon.
Spritzee and Swirlix will both hatch from 2km eggs, though, so they shouldn't be too hard to find. As of now, these two Fairy-types are not in raids or available as field research encounter rewards.
How to Evolve Spritzee in Pokemon GO
In the main series games, Spritzee evolves when traded while holding a Sachet. Unfortunately, Sachets do not exist in Pokemon GO, so you'll have to use another method.
You'll need 50 Spritzee candies to evolve it, so once you have enough, you can start the evolution process, which goes as follows:
- Make Spritzee your buddy.
- While it's your buddy, activate an Incense from your inventory.
- Head back to the Pokemon page for your Spritzee and evolve it into Aromatisse.
Unfortunately, it seems that you must activate an Incense while Spritzee is your buddy to evolve it. This means that you cannot have an Incense already active, then make it your buddy and evolve it, nor can you evolve multiple Spritzee with one Incense.
To evolve Spritzee in Pokemon GO, it does not need to be on the map after being fed some berries. So long as it's still your buddy and you've activated the Incense in that order (and you have 50 candies), it'll evolve.
How to Evolve Swirlix in Pokemon GO
Swirlix, like Spritzee, needs to be traded while holding an item — in this case, a Whipped Dream — to evolve in the main series. In Pokemon GO, though, it's a bit different.
It also requires 50 candies to evolve Swirlix in Pokemon GO, so once you have them, you can go ahead with the evolution process.
- Make Swirlix your buddy.
- Click "PLAY!" to play with your Swirlix buddy.
- Feed Swirlix 25 times (it can be any combination of berries and poffins).
- Head back to Swirlix' Pokemon page and evolve it into Slurpuff.
You can keep track of how many times you've given Swirlix a treat by clicking on the "adventure together to evolve" text on its summary page. This will show a counter out of 25. Swirlix also does not need to be present on the map to evolve, but it probably will be if it has just been fed.
